“I still love you”

Now… I’m not a parent, but I did raise a child who recently came out as a lesbian. And while I am an active member of the LGBT community, sometimes I can’t for the life of me figure out some of the things that cisgender/heterosexual/un-self aware humans say and do to one another.

A lot of the reactions that people coming out as any letter of the acronym get, I feel, are coming from a point of extreme cissexism and heterosexism. To me… What should immediately follow “I still love you…” should be something along the lines of “even though you’re a freak now”. Am I wrong? I’m sure that they’re using the word still to let the child or person in general know that even though they’re gay or trans now… They didn’t lose their affection. But is that right? Why not say “I love you”. In my personal opinion here… If you say “I still love you” there really is no way around the following thought of “even though you’re….” (gay? trans? into BDSM? atheist?).

The term is a slap in the face. A last little “fuck you for being like this but look how noble I am for still accepting you” deal. And this ratn was brought to you by a post I read in my ftm tags from someone’s mother, saying basically don’t expect your grandpa to understand this, but I still love you.

This brings me to another point… If trans and gay people weren’t so focused on fitting into the cisgender culture, and realized they had their own and were not “weird” or “freaks” then they’d have the confidence to say something witty back to her like “I still love you too, even though you’d rather me live my life as who you want me to be and run the risk of me being completely miserable, depressed and committing suicide… gold star for you Mom!”

I’ve never hide the fact that I’m elitist, I am 100% in support of any trans person. Period. I’m like a damn lawyer, I will fight for you and your confidence and your declared pronouns and gender identity without hesitation. I’ve come to have literally zero patience for cissexism and trans people being made to feel bad about doing something that can set them free and make them happy and healthy. The End.
